2023 Sundance Film Festival Kicks Off in Park City
The 2023 Sundance Film Festival has officially kicked off in Park City, Utah. From January 19-29, locals and filmmakers alike will gather to celebrate independent storytelling.
This year, the indie festival is offering both in-person and on-demand online screenings, giving festival go-ers more opportunities than ever to see the biggest films of the year.
From January 19-29, festival goers will be able to attend in-person screenings at venues throughout Salt Lake City, Park City, and the Sundance Mountain Resort, while a virtual festival will be offered January 24-29.
It’s no secret Utah claims a special place in the film industry. Earlier this week, MovieMaker Magazine named Salt Lake City #15 on their 2023 List of Best Places to Live and Work as a MovieMaker, and referenced Cosmic as the clear choice for filmmakers and creatives throughout the state looking for production and post-production services.
Cosmic took care of the digital cinema mastering for Aliens Abducted My Parents and Now I Feel Kinda Left Out, the coming-of-age story premiering January 20 at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Watch the trailer here.
As we wait for reviews to roll in, here’s the most buzzed about films premiering at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival:
Eileen: Two co-workers (Anne Hathaway, Thomasin McKenzie) form a surprising friendship while working at a 1964 Massachusetts prison. Directed by William Oldroyd, this psychological thriller is an official selection of the festival’s Premieres program.
Cat Person: Susanna Fogel brings Kristen Roupenian’s 2017 viral short story to the big screen in Cat Person. Starring Emilia Jones and Nicholad Braun, the film follows a college student who begins a relationship with an older man. Jones returns to Sundance after being the breakout star of the 2021 Sundance Film Festival with Coda, which brought home four awards from Sundance and three Academy Awards.
Magazine Dreams: This U.S. Dramatic selection follows a temperamental bodybuilder pushing his mind and body to its limit. The film stars Jonathan Majors, one of the most buzzed about up-and-coming stars with roles in Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quanumania and Creed III.
You Hurt My Feelings: Nicole Holofcener makes her fourth return to Sundance with Julia-Louis Dreyfus starring in You Hurt My Feelings, a comedy drama that landed in the Feature category of the fest.
Bad Behaviour: Following her comeback role in Top Gun: Maverick, Jennifer Connelly returns as the lead in Bad Behaviour, a dark comedy competing in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition. In Alice Englert’s directorial debut, Connelly plays a former child star seeking enlightenment.
